Growing Up With Fast Food
As a child I grew up with
fast food being a treat for my brothers and sisters and I. My mom tells us that
the first time we came to the United States; we stopped by at McDonalds and ate
there. She says back then hamburgers were like 35 cents. So from there on my
parents began a promise to us that if and when they can they’d treat us to
McDonalds is we behaved, did our chores and most important behaved in mass.
Since I can remember we would so often get that treat since being a family of eight.
My parents would work very hard to provide for us and keep up with their
promises to us. The family’s favorite was McDonalds. Later was when we started
changing it to Burger King, Carl’s Jr. because at times they’d have deals,
which was convenient for both my parents and having to buy for six. I remember
I would always get the happy meal with a cheeseburger and fries and my toy, boy
how I enjoyed those toys. I remember we would exchange them between my sisters
and brothers. I remember that when they would give the Barbie’s my sisters and
I would collect them and spend the day playing with them. I would always look forward to our Sundays;
mass we would talk amongst each other and say we’d behave so after we can go
eat. I remember we’d pitch each other every time one of us slacked off, oh and
my mother’s look would say it all when we were crossing the line of misbehaving.
Fast Food was a biggie for my brothers, sisters and I, it was our treat.
I
would probably have to say that McDonalds is still one of my favorites. I still
eat fast food but limit myself. I’d say I have fast food once or twice a month.
I try to eat healthy and stick to their salad menu but must admit it’s hard not
to crave their hamburgers and fries and my favorite strawberry shakes. I would
have to say that I’d rather cook and eat home meals plus being a mother of five
does get quite expensive. I do treat my kids once in a while to a fast food of their
choice but I use the same techniques as my parents did with us when we were
young. They must do well in school, behave in mass, and do your chores. They
dislike it but taught me how to keep clean and be responsible and that’s what I
want my kids to learn. Now a day there’s so many health problems with eating
all these fattening food. Like obesity which is one of the biggest health
issues especially in children and is also why I limit these foods to my children.
Children having diabetes, high blood pressure and it being so hard to change
those eating habits. So fast food is really a problem health wise for the
society overall.
